Parliament ratifies Protection of World Cultural, Natural Heritage Convention

The National Legislative Assembly or NLA on Monday ratified United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO Convention on Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
 
NLA Information Chairperson Thomas Wani Kundu says the ratification of the convention allows indigenous people to freely express and protect natural and cultural heritages, Radio Bakhita.
 
He adds that the parliament ratified the convention with reservations on paying regular fees to the World Heritage Fund.
 
The Information Chairperson says the National Legislative Assembly shall withdraw the reservation in future once South Sudan economic crisis improves.
 
The ratified convention awaits President Salva Kiir’s assent become law in force for UNESCO to start funding government culture institutions.
