Inspector General of Police or IGP has disclosed government and UNHCR plan to form Special Police Unit to minimize insecurity cases in refugee camps in South Sudan.
IGP Pieng Deng Kuol admits that there are detrimental challenges undermining the interior ministry in making complete protection of refugees in the country despite utmost commitment.
South Sudan Refugee Commission Affairs’ Chairperson Bol John Akot reveals that there are four highly refugee in fluxed states in the country including Upper Nile, Unity, Central Equatoria and Western Equatoria with an estimated figure of at least 250 thousand.
He adds that there are scores of asylum seekers from neighbouring countries.
United Nations Refugee Agency or UNHCR South Sudan Deputy Representative Ajit Fernando says 1.5 million South Sudanese have become Internally Displaced Persons or IDPs since conflict broke out in December 2013 in Juba.
