South Sudan Commission for Refugees Affairs has welcomed refugees into the country to live in peace with host communities.

Refugee Commission Director for Program Coordination Malual Deng Chier says the government will continue to cooperate with humanitarian agencies to cater for refugees’ welfare.

He reveals that South Sudan hosts a quarter of million refugees with over 133 thousand from Blue Nile, 91 thousand from the Nuba Mountains and two thousand from Ethiopia, among others.

The official admits that the refugees in South Sudan encounter several challenges and that the government in partnership with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees or UNHCR is seeking to address the ills they face.

Director Deng says government only provides security for the refugees and that considerations are underway for offering land for refugee settlement and agricultural production.

The Commission is expected to mark the World Refugee Day on June 20th.
