South Sudan marks World Blood Donor Day

South Sudan Health Ministry on Tuesday June 16th joined the globe in commemorating the World Blood Donor Day in Juba.
 
Ministry of Health Undersecretary Dr Makur Koriom says that the day is very important to the country, the nation to freely donate blood to save lives of those in need, Bakhita Radio reported.
 
He adds that South Sudan has exceeded set 500 units of blood in 2014 since the launching of blood bank in Juba and Wau, expressing hope that the year 2015 may harvest up to 1000 units of blood.
 
World Health Organization Representative to South Sudan Falson Manzilla says blood donation in Africa remains very low.
 
He points out that in 2013 only 3.9 million units of blood was harvested from the continent, covering 50 percent needs.
 
300 voluntary blood donors on Tuesday in Juba received some bronzes, silvers and gold medal awards.
