Electricity, Dams, Irrigation & Water Resources Minister announces that the Electricity Corporation is going to boost supply from the first of July to the end in memory of South Sudan independence.

Jemma Nunu Kumba says her ministry has applied for finances to mark the fourth independence anniversary in light, Bakhita Radio reported.
The Minister adds that so far the testing of machines upon receipt of fuel proves promising.

But why should the electricity supply be improved for only one month?

Minister Nunu admits that there are irregularities in electricity supply due to manipulation of metres and that some customers’ failure to pay electricity bills as government revenue to maintain services is frustrating.

She discloses government plan to introduce secure electricity metres’ measure to check on cheats.

The Electricity Minister this week disclosed South Sudan government scheme of financing imported Karuma hydropower from Uganda.

Earlier on the government revealed a construction project of Nimule Folla Rapids Hydropower plant in three years as from 2013, the status the project remains unclear with new plan to import power.
