South Sudan Education Ministry strategizes to catch striking and fleeing university lecturers by seeking parliamentary approval of a new salary structure, nearing 75 thousand US Dollars per annum.
Deputy Education Minister Bol Makueng Yuol explains to the National Legislative Assembly on Monday that adopting the structure in 2015/2016 budget gives way to quality higher education, motivation, job attraction, stability, responsibility and transformation in the learning system.
The Deputy Minister fears that without approval of the new salary scale for lecturers, there would be more desertion from the profession since most teachers are now unable to manage families or travel abroad for academic conferences.
The National Legislative Assembly is set to deliberate on academic staff salary structure next week as specialized committees scrutinize the proposal for seven days as from Monday.
