Former detainees to arrive Juba next week

Sudan People’s Liberation Movement announced on Monday that an advance team of five former political detainees led by Deng Alor Kuol is expected to return to Juba next week to work together with President Salva Kiir’s government.
 
Acting Secretary General Ann Itto told journalists in Juba that Tanzanian ruling party Secretary-General is also expected to visit Juba on Wednesday to consult President Kiir about the arrangements for their return.
 
The Acting Secretary-General explains that the former detainees expected to arrive include John Luk Jok and Madut Biar Yel and that the SPLM Political Bureau agreed to allow 60 South African’s security personnel to protect the former detainees.
 
Dr Itto discloses that South African Deputy President Cyril Ramaposa and Tanzanian Chama Cha Mpundisi Secretary-General would accompany the advance team.
 
The Acting Secretary-General expresses SPLM commitment to implement Arusha Agreement to effectively address all root causes of the conflict and South Sudanese concerns.
