Yei Mayor in Central Equatoria State says his administration is stepping up efforts on massive HIV awareness campaign to alert and save the young generation from acquiring the killer disease.
In a joint meeting with 200 community leaders on Thursday Santo Paul Lasuba told the gathering that fight against HIV requires collective responsibility, Radio Easter reported.
He discloses that now HIV is increasing so rapidly in Yei after Yambio and that the County would soon rank the first on HIV statistics in South Sudan.
The Mayor stresses the need to enlighten the people through radio stations, advising people to take care of the HIV victims, not expose themselves anyhow and know their status.
Health reports indicate that the rate of HIV in Yei is increasing at a speed of 50 percent every month.
