SPLA Spokesperson condemns the killing of Radio Tamazuj correspondent Pow James Reith in Akobo County of Jonglei State, describing it as a barbaric act.
Colonel Philip Aguer Panyang told CRN on Thursday in telephone interview that it is a crime to kill a journalist, calling on concerned authorities to bring the murderers to book because journalists are civilians and none combatant.
He says the security situation remains fragile in some parts of Upper Nile, but that the SPLA recaptured and is in control of Melut in Upper Nile state.
Radio Tamazuj in statement reports that its correspondent was killed on Wednesday by unknown perpetrators and that the cause of the shooting is not yet clear, but Akobo authorities are investigating.
