United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS on Friday handed over a school block that cost twenty-five thousand US Dollars to Ikwoto County of Eastern Equatoria State.
UNMISS State Coordinator in Torit Hiroko Hirahara Mosko says the Mission constructed the school through Quick Impact project conceived last year and that the community contribution for its success, Radio Emmanuel reported.
The State Coordinator calls on the community to continue supporting the school sustainability, pledging UNMISS’ continuous support.
Acting State Education Minister Margaret Idwa Okuye calls on the community to drive towards self-reliance than dependence of donors, urging it to contribute for the construction of pit latrines rather than directing all challenges to UNMISS.
Appreciating UNMISS for construction, Ikwoto Commissioner Peter Lokeng reveals that it is the first community-government owned school in the county.
The head teacher Lowaha William says that the construction increased enrolment at the school from 250 to 600 pupils and that parents decided to use the new block for a nursery as the national government is constructing a primary school.
