The Commission of Justice and Peace in Tombura-Yambio Catholic Diocese on Friday conducted a one-day peace conference in Yambio County.
The conference intends to prevent conflict, set policies and promote cultural diversity, peaceful co-existence and equal sharing of resources especially water and land among Western Equatoria communities, Radio Anisa reported.
Chancellor Fr Raphael Diko says the conference was a plan Bishop Barani Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala initiated to make Western Equatoria a gateway to peace and development to the rest of South Sudan.
The peace conference attracted more than 50 participants from different churches, civil society groups, the government and non-governmental organizations.
Bishop Hiiboro initiated the peace program in Maridi, now in Yambio and is expected to be held in Tombura, facilitated by United States Institute for Peace.
