Azande traditional leaders in Yambio County of Western Equatoria State on Friday discussed customary laws.

Yambio County Paramount Chief Wilson Peni Rikito says United Nations Development Programme is supporting the Azande community in the state to document customary laws and policies of the traditional judiciary system, Radio Anisa reported.

He discloses that the customary laws would help them to resolve other cultural and traditional issues including marriage, inheritance and passing equity judgments for both men and women.

Female participant Priscilla Elikana Basipangua welcomed the idea of documenting Azande laws to address high dowry and other behaviours contrary to cultures and traditions of the community.

Yambio County Youth representative Anthony Sanangore Atoroba also expressed excitement for the customary law, hoping that young people would grow up responsibly.

Traditional leaders of the AZande community from Tombura, Ezo, Ibba, Yambio, Nzara, Maridi and Nagero Counties are expected next week in Yambio to meet on similar issues at the state level.
