Caritas Internationalis welcomes South Sudan’s full membership

Caritas Internationalis on Wednesday during its twentieth General Assembly in Rome, Italy, welcomed Caritas South Sudan as its member number one hundred and sixty-five.
 
Caritas South Sudan Humanitarian Coordinator Joseph Pasquale broke the news to CRN on Friday that Caritas Internationalis’ 136 delegates unanimously accepted South Sudan Catholic Church charity organization as its full member.
 
He reveals that Caritas South Sudan represented by its President Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe and Executive Director Gabriel Yai on Thursday participated for the first time in voting in the new Caritas Internationlis President Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of Manila, Philippines.
 
South Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Secretary Fr Charles Abbud Edward in his notification to all Dioceses and the Apostolic Nuncio to South Sudan Archbishop Charles Daniel Balvo calls on Bishops, Apostolic Administrators, Catholic Christians in particular and South Sudanese in general ‘to rejoice and be glad with the victory’.
 
Caritas South Sudan was founded in September 2011 and its members worked long before the Independence.
 
Now Caritas South Sudan supports families who fled violence with food, homes and schools for their children and also helps families rebuild after attacks by the Lord’s Resistance Army.
