Network of Civil Society Organizations in Eastern Equatoria State condemns May 6 attack on young girls near Idolu Bridge of Hiyala Payam in Torit County.
The State Network Chairperson Ebul Simon Ohuro notes in a statement to the press that the two innocent girls were seriously wounded in the attack, Radio Emmanuel reported.
He explains that a six-year-old Aparing Richard passed away at Torit Civil Hospital and her body was taken to Mura-hatiha for burial, while 16-year-old Agnes Cecilia Everest is still receiving treatment at the Hospital.
Mr Ebul recounts that few days ago, gunmen hijacked an SPLA officer and a bodyguard between Loguruny Imatar Boma and Offi village while traveling to Ikwoto County on a motorbike and that their whereabouts are not known to date.
He also recalls incidents of armed robbery, vehicle ambushes and attacks on passengers by gunmen along Torit-Kapoeta road.
Mr Ebul expresses concern over the incidents, calling them threats to peace and a grave situation in Eastern Equatoria State.
The Network reminds the state government to take serious measures against the perpetrators, calling on citizens to cooperate with the government by giving necessary information leading to arrest of the suspects.
Apostolic Administrator of the Catholic Diocese of Torit Monsignor Thomas Oliha also issued a press statement condemning the attacks.
