The Catholic Emeritus Bishop of El Obeid recognizes the staff of Mother of Mercy Hospital in Gidel of South Kordofan for sacrificing to render lifesaving services in the only functioning health facility in Nuba Mountains.
Bishop Macram Max Gassis in his statement on Thursday marking one year of targeted aerial bombardment of the Hospital expresses heartfelt gratitude to the workforce serving the local population.
He says the presence and dedication of the staff despite their personal threat and fear, keeps the Hospital running, praying that God continues to keep them safe.
Bishop Max thanks all organizations supporting the Diocese, calling on them to continue serving the people by buying medicines and food for the Hospital and education to the local community.
The Bishop emphasizes that ‘you have stood with us during the challenges we have faced, and I wish to recognize the crucial role you play in enabling us to carry out our work in the service of the people of the Nuba Mountains’.
He laments that the situation in the region remains desperate almost four years, calling on the international community to continue condemning targeting of civilians and infrastructures.
Bishop Max appeals for an end to indiscriminate bombardment of the population and a negotiated solution as military campaign achieved nothing except destruction and death.
He calls on the warring parties to seriously pursue a negotiated end to the violence.
