Sexual violence growing rapidly in Western Equatoria

Western Equatoria Legislative Assembly says sexual violence against women in the state is still growing rapidly.
 
Assembly Speaker Bage James Elisa reports that Yambio County has the highest rate of divorce with 103 followed by Nagero 45, Maridi 42, Tombura 32, Nzara 30 and Ezo 28 with other counties yet to submit their reports.
 
He cites alcoholism, insufficient law enforcement and inadequate judiciary personnel among others as causes of gender-based violence.
 
The Speaker recommends sending more judges and prosecutors to handle cases before situation worsen, advising citizens to avoid practices leading to divorce.
 
He calls for sensitization of the local community on the dangers of violence against women, suggesting provision of basic laws to minimize sale of alcohol in public places.
