United Nations Mission in South Sudan Human Rights Division in partnership with Union of Journalists of South Sudan or UJOSS and Albany Associates is training journalists under the theme: ‘Promotion and protection of human rights in media coverage in South Sudan’.
In his opening remarks on Tuesday, UJOSS Chairman Oliver Modi Philip applauds partners for training journalists to improve and enhance their understanding of human rights, radio Bakhita reported.
He says journalism is a call to tell the truth, defend people’s expression to take a sound decision, expecting the participants to get skills for monitoring and reporting human rights abuses.
Mr Modi reveals UJOSS plan to extend similar trainings to journalists in other states.
Association of Media Development in South Sudan or AMDISS Chairman Alfred Taban appeals to the government to provide safe environment to journalists.
He notes that the training may not be enough to resolve all needs of media practitioners due to lack of implementation of media laws.
The four-day training that started on Tuesday attracted over 40 journalists from all media houses in Central Equatoria State.
