African Union or AU Commission Chairperson following Sudan government’s invitation approved the deployment of its Election Observation Mission to monitor presidential and parliamentary elections running from Monday to Wednesday.
A statement CRN obtained on Monday says Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma launched the Election Observation Mission to Sudan on April 10, 2015 with 20 short-term observers drawn from 14 African countries.
Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo who heads the Mission to Sudan arrived in Khartoum on Monday with members destined to cover seven states in Sudan.
The Mission after interacting with key stakeholders is expected to observe the voting and counting process.
The Mission is expected to issue a statement of its preliminary assessment of the elections on April 16.

The Mission’s mandate is derived from the 2007 African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance; the 2002 AU/OAU Declaration on Principles Governing Democratic Elections in Africa; and the 2002 AU Guidelines for Elections Observation and Monitoring Missions.
