United Nations Children Agency or UNICEF confirms that an unidentified armed group in Abyei last Friday released four children abducted on March 2.
The unidentified gunmen abducted two boys and two girls between six and twelve years after an attack at Marial Achak village in the Abyei region, Radio Bakhita reported.
The release follows a tribal mediation in collaboration with the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei or UNISFA.
UNICEF and partners are working to re-unify the children with their families in addition to providing psychosocial support.
UNICEF condemns all forms of abduction of children, saying children are not commodities to be held for ransom or compensation.
