South Sudan government is studying an invitation from Kingdom of the Netherlands to join International Energy Charter in The Hague in May 20, 2015.

Petroleum Minister Stephen Dhieu Dau on Thursday evening told CRN that by joining the International Energy Charter, South Sudan adopts global energy governance principle of transparency.

He adds that the country needs international technical support and experience to develop the energy sector.

Kingdom of the Netherlands Ambassador to South Sudan Jaap van der Zeeuw says the charter stands to benefit South Sudan in enhancing private business climate, energy security, renewable energy sources and legal binding in global energy situation.

The International Energy Charter was adopted in 1991 in The Hague, Netherlands to address modern energy challenges and ambition to lead evolving architecture of global energy governance.

East African Community members including Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi and Rwanda on March 4 declared the Energy Charter relevant for Africa in a Petroleum Conference held in Kigali, Rwanda from March 4-6 this year.
