South Sudan Health Minister on the commemoration of World Health Day April 7 instructed Public Health Officers to inspect food vending premises and restaurants for standards set in health guidelines.

Riek Gai Kok in a statement says food safety is a public health priority as government waits for the enactment of the Public Health Bill within the larger policy and regulatory frameworks at national level.

He adds that the states and local governments established guidelines for regulating food handlers.

Dr Gai says consistent implementation of health guidelines is mandatory and must be observed by all actors to safeguard the public from food borne diseases.

He calls on all relevant authorities to ensure that public health guidelines are updated and made available for users to implement.
