Western Equatoria Legislative Assembly on Tuesday spotted weak judiciary system as the root cause of growing gender-based violence in the state.

Speaker Bage James Elisa adds high bride price, misinterpretation of human rights, polygamy, early marriage, traditional norms, poverty, bribery, illiteracy, lust and prostitution are some root causes of gender-based violence, Radio Anisa reported.

He denounces rising new cases of rape and murder of men, women and children in the state.

The Speaker recommends the assembly’s committee for gender to present the parliamentary resolutions to the relevant state ministries such as Local Government, Education and Social Development for implementations.

The State Augus House recommends training for the judiciary, drafting Marriage Bill, minimizing bars’ operation time and encouraging churches to educate children.

Speaker James appeals to partners dealing with human rights issues to carry out awareness about the right of the people.
