Humanitarian Coordinator expresses deep concern over continuous restriction of civilians’ freedom of movement limiting ability to provide food during the planting season in the country.
Toby Lanzer says in a statement on Thursday that it is vital that people are able to move freely to access land, plant crops, tend livestock and trade without fear of violence.
He explains that free movement is crucial to prevent further deterioration in food insecurity caused by the ongoing conflict.
Traditional livestock migration patterns, agriculture and trading routes have been disrupted by the ongoing fighting, especially in Jonglei, Unity and Upper Nile states.
More than 2.5 million people are severely food insecure and that the number could increase.
