Tombura-Yambio Catholic Diocesan active priests on Tuesday celebrated Chrism Mass at St Mary Yambio Parish to renew their commitments to priesthood and the gift of hearing confession through a written test set by the Bishop.

Bishop Edwardo Hiiboro Kusala examined 13 young priests ordained between 2005 and 2014 in order to renew their faculties for a given period, Radio Anisa reported.

Assistant Episcopal Vicar for the Clergy, Religious and Administrator for the Priestly Council Fr Victor Babie says Chrism celebration was a happy moment for the priests and faithful because they were chosen from communities.

He explains that of the 45 priests in Tombura-Yambio, 36 are currently serving in the Diocese, three in the national offices in Juba, one liaison officer in Kampala, two in Belgium, two in Rome and two in Nairobi for studies.

Fr Babie encourages young people to join the seminary, urging Christians to pray, support and advise their priests.

Fr Bagare Mathew who was ordained on December 8, 2011, says priesthood’s joy comes with the presence of faithful asking for different sacraments, adding that confession is a sensitive work.

He says the test was a bit challenging as it took him back to recall his professors’ notes longtime ago in classes.
