Access points and long distances remain an obstacle to both girls and women while fetching water in Eastern Equatoria State.

Addressing World Water Day on Monday at Torit East Primary School, Netherlands Development Organization Hygiene Project Officer Pasquina Acidria called for collective responsibility in taking care and ownership of water points, Radio Emmanuel reported.

She noted that water shortage is a clear female matter especially school going girls.

Torit Mayor Martin Odeki Ohuro cautioned citizens against poor disposal of garbage in the town to avoid replication of last year’s cholera outbreak that claimed lives of over 80 people.

He disclosed that the Municipal council recently signed a memorandum of understanding with GIZ to implement water project in the town.

The function under the theme ‘Water and sustainability for development’ organized by the State Physical Infrastructure Ministry supported by UNICEFF, attracted civil society organizations, students and hundreds of citizens.
