Sudd Institute Policy Analyst has observed that establishing a culture of peace in South Sudan needs a philosophical understanding of the nature of society the country is.

In a publication on policy brief, Benjamin Machar recommends that South Sudan as a society needs peace through a comprehensive dialogue.

He suggests that peace culture must be fixed on justice and accountability to eradicate tribalism and impunity in South Sudan where there is militarization and ethnicization of politics for power gain and consolidation.

The analyst observes that South Sudanese are very forgiving people and that application of dialogue to achieve sustainable peace should be centred on ‘restorative justice’ where offenders repair harm they have caused by apology and returning stolen wealth.

Analyst Machar also recommends that the national leadership must separate the army from politics and the ruling party from government affairs to install peace culture in South Sudan.
