Eastern Equatoria Malaria Coordinator said the disease remains a threat in the state accounting for 32 percent cases of out-patients-department.
Tobia Magezi disclosed this to Radio Emmanuel on Thursday during a five-day training of health personal in Torit, saying ‘malaria remains a threat to most people especially infants of 0-5 years and expectant mothers’.
He noted that the ministry distributed 522 thousand mosquito nets during 2013 mass campaign in an effort to combat the disease.
The Coordinator discourages misuse of treated mosquito nets for fishing, building and sheltering seedlings among others, instead of preventing malaria.
He warns that insecticide treated mosquito nets are harmful to humans if used for covering consumable items such as grains.
The ongoing five-day training at Safari-Link covers preventive measure of malaria, diarrhea including other communicable diseases.
