Japanese Ambassador to South Sudan while launching construction project of Nile River Bridge on Thursday in Juba reminded the nation that ‘Freedom Bridge’ should become a monument of manifestation of South Sudanese aspirations.

In a statement Takeshi Akamatsu said the ‘Freedom Bridge’ should imply freedom of self-determination, speech, press and movement.

The ambassador added that the freedom should also mean freedom from want and fear as an underlying philosophy of human security, a core value in diplomacy.

Ambassador Akamatsu explained that human security should be achieved by putting people in the centre of development and nation building.

The bridge construction project is expected to cost 91 million US Dollars with length of 560 metres and access road stretching to 3640 metres.

Japan had three infrastructure projects of Juba River Port improvement, Water Supply System and the Nile River Bridge since 2012 interrupted by ongoing conflict.
