UNMISS chief ‘appalled’ by Malakal destruction

United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS head says she is shocked by the damage inflicted on Malakal main market, Teaching Hospital and river port reduced to a ghost town.
 
In a statement, Ellen Margrethe L√∏ej and the US Ambassador to South Sudan Charles Twining expressed concerns about forcible recruitment of boys at Wau Shilluk village near Malakal and elsewhere in Upper Nile State during a visit on Tuesday.
 
UNMISS Chief L√∏ej and Ambassador Twining met Upper Nile Deputy Governor Gwinye Philip Chan and state ministers to discuss reports of continuing recruitment of child soldiers in the state and other issues of concern.
 
The UNMISS head stressed the importance of holding perpetrators of child soldiers recruitment accountable for engaging in unacceptable practice.
