Lakes State Legislative Assembly ended its nine months recess on Monday with a call for the release of its two members in detention as part of rebuilding trust between the executive and the legislative bodies.

The call for release of MPs Marik Nanga Marik and Isaac Makur Buoch followed State SPLM Secretary Mabor Ater Dhuol appeal to the Governor to free the two MPs as an indicator of opening a new page of unity and development in the state, Radio Good News reported.

Lakes Speaker Baipath Majuec Rilpuou called on the executive and legislative organs to leave behind political differences that put them into loggerheads in 2014 in order to cooperate in tackling challenges of insecurity and underdevelopment in the state.

State Governor Matur Chut Dhuol expressed readiness to work with the parliament, telling the lawmakers to forget demands for the release of MPs Isaac Makur and Marik Nanga as a condition for unity between legislators and executive.

He said the detained MPs would undergo due processes of justice in court to prove their innocence of charges labeled against them.

The opening of Lakes State Assembly sixth session attracted state executive, religious leaders, organized forces representatives, UNMISS and members of the public.
