Citizens demand revival of local languages’ broadcast

South Sudanese marking the World Radio Day on Friday demand reinforcement of local languages’ broadcast over radios across the country.
 
Caritas Communication Officer Thomas Longa told CRN that it is high time for U-turn for radio stations in South Sudan to change from 100 percent broadcast in English and Arabic to local languages like Bari in Juba and other languages in various towns to avoid communication shortcomings.
 
University of Juba Communications’ lecturer Chaplain Kara Yokoju earlier demanded the revival of local languages in media to cater for over 75 percent English illiterate majority.
 
Civil Society Activist Isaac Kenyi Kungur said World Radio Day is a reminder for the government to grant to media the right to inform masses instead of cracking them down.
