United Nations Children’s Fund or UNICEF is applauding the release of another 300 children from South Sudan Democratic Movement/Army or SSDM/A Cobra Faction for the second time in less than a month.

UNICEF South Sudan Representative Jonathan Veitch in a statement welcomed the news, saying ‘For every child released, it’s the chance for a new life.’

Just two weeks ago Cobra Faction released 249 children ranging from 11 to 17 years at Gumuruk village of Greater Pibor Administrative Area in Jonglei State.

UNICEF and the National Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Commission marked the release by a ceremony during which the child soldiers surrendered their weapons and uniforms.

More children are expected to be released next month.

UNICEF recorded at least 12 thousand children in 2014 alone, mostly boys were recruited and used as soldiers by armed forces in South Sudan as a whole.
