A man believed to be 30 years old was sentenced to two years imprisonment for concealing his HIV status from his girlfriend.
The man fell in love with a 23-year old girl, three months before the lover realised that the boyfriend was HIV positive prompting her to open a court case, Radio Voice of Hope reported.
Wau Court ruled two years prison sentence against the man for failing to disclose his status to the lover before coming into sexual contact.
Presiding Judge John Yel said the ruling came under South Sudan Penal Code 261 and 262 which states that people falling in love must disclose to one another their status at the primary stage of love and that any deviation is a crime.
The Judge said the ruling is the first of its kind in Wau though many cases were handled at the family level due to limited knowledge of the law.
