Tombura-Yambio Catholic Bishop on Monday launched a seven-day Youth Congress at St Mary Yambio Parish under the theme: ‘Youth raise and walk for peace’.
Bishop Barani Eduardo Hiiboro in his homily called for togetherness among the youth both in the church and communities to realize peace, Radio Anisa reported.
He described the youth as weapons for reaching lasting peace in families, counties, state and the country at large.
Diocesan Youth Chaplain Fr Gamboripai William Abbas said the week long congress focuses on prayers, songs festival and display of cultural dances at evening hours.
He advised choir members to embrace the spirit of love, unity and peace among themselves.
Western Equatoria Deputy Governor Sapan Abui thanked the administration of Tombura-Yambio Diocese for assembling the youth to teach them about peace.
Diocesan Youth Acting Premier Jackcilia Salatiere Ebere said transportation for the youth in remote parishes to the congress venue was one of the major challenges.
The Youth Congress that attracted youth from the 19 parishes of Tombura-Yambio second Diocese is the second of its kind following the first conducted in 2008.
