Yei Central Football Girls’ Club won 2015 first Mayor’s Cup after beating Rainbow Girls’ two goals to one at Yei Freedom Square on Saturday evening.
Yei Central players Mary Konga and Joy Cheka won the award despite injuries they incurred while beating Rainbow’s Hellen Sunday’s only score, Radio Easter reported.
Addressing the gathering after the match, Central Equatoria Culture, Youths and Sports minister Stephen Lado Onesimo congratulated both clubs for their efforts to reach the final.
He promised to avail playing shoes to the eight football clubs.
Yei Football Association head John James Wani said the county and the municipality have eight girl’s football clubs though six participated in Mayor’s Cup tournament.
He revealed association’s plan to organize another girls’ football competition in the near future.
