Wau County Commissioner reported that existence of fifteen thousand illegal cattle in its territory is a threat, calling for reactivation of Bussere conference resolution to mitigate possible occurrence of conflict between farmers and cattle keepers.
Eliah Kamilo Dimo said the presence of armed cattle keepers need immediate solution between Warrap and Western Bahr El Ghazal States, Radio Voice of Hope reported.
He lamented that cattle keepers came with their families and cows in big numbers, describing it as a ‘threat to farming’ because cattle destroy crops and affect livelihood of local people.
The Commissioner asserted that possession of arms by civilians was prohibited in Wau County, accusing cattle keepers of violating Bussere conference by failing to notify local authorities before entering the area.
He revealed that the County is expected to hold a meeting on Monday with Warrap State authorities and cattle keepers.
