The South Sudanese Network for Democracy and Elections or SSuNDE called the government to prioritize peace and prepare helpful environment for the first elections in an independent country.

The Network in a statement CRN obtained on Friday urged the government to commit to just and lasting peace, allow free and fair elections in the country that reflects the will of candidates and serve as a unifying factor for South Sudanese.

SSuNDE expressed full support to IGAD’s peace process, acknowledging South Sudan leadership hard work and the National Elections Commission or NEC to promote democracy, good governance and social cohesion.

The Network urged the National Legislative Assembly to work hand in hand with civil society organizations, political parties and the Constitution Review Commission to amend the Transitional Constitution to extend the mandate of the government to continue negotiating to bring peace.

SSuNDE said it is willing to cooperate with NEC to promote genuine democratic elections in stable South Sudan to create an enabling environment for citizen voting.

It appealed to all South Sudanese institutions and partners to support the peace process and return the country to normalcy.
