Community Empowerment for Progress Organization or CEPO rejected National Elections Commission or NEC announcement of general elections in June because some parts of the country are in violence.

CEPO Executive Director Edmond Yakani in statement CRN obtained said the announcement demonstrates that NEC is working for undemocratic national elections.

He argued that elections would not score any creditability without population census, genuine constituencies’ demarcation and peaceful electoral campaigns.

Mr Yakani called on President Salva Kiir to adjourn the elections until peace is attained in the country because the current situation cannot allow candidates to participate in the process freely.

He justified that the ongoing violence can create violent elections atmosphere, intimidation and harassment of political campaigns and voting.

CEPO strongly believes that politicians that would fail the elections would join the war against the government in Juba.
