Union of Journalists of South Sudan or UJOSS Chairperson on Friday recommended for quick establishment of Media Authority to resolve misunderstanding between journalists and security organs.
Oliver Modi Philip who was addressing the media and security dialogue under the theme: ‘Strengthening mutual relationship between media and security’ funded by Norwegian People Aid on Friday in Juba, stressed the importance of cooperation in nation building.
Association for Media Development in South Sudan or AMDISS Chairman Alfred Taban expressed hope that the dialogue could usher better relations as they share ideas and experiences.
He added that the duty of security organs is to protect all people including journalists while media practitioners provide timely and accurate information to all public members including the security apparatus.
Military Intelligence Deputy Director Brigadier General Kulang Mayen Kulang said security and media work for the National Defence as a common goal, calling on journalists to be accurate in reporting.
Information and Broadcasting Ministry Director-General Paul Jacob Kumbo who opened the dialogue in said the ministry bridges the gap between media and security organs to harmonize divergences.
He warned security organs against taking direct action against media outlets or journalists without reporting to the Ministry.
AMDISS conducted a similar dialogue in Kwajok city of Warrap State on December 16 and 17 2014.
