United State Secretary of State and National Security Adviser called on South Sudan conflicting leaders to set aside their dispute and put the interests of their people above their own grievances.
In a press statement issued on Monday marking one year of conflict in South Sudan, John Kerry and Susan E. Rice stressed the need for a transitional government to create security agencies that protect all people for the country to move forward.
They added that the transitional government must develop a transparent system for managing resources and agree on an inclusive constitutional drafting process that focuses on improved governance.
The two leaders called for the establishment of a reconciliation plan accompanied by efforts to investigate atrocities and ensure that perpetrators account for their crimes.
They noted that US worked with local and regional partners to document human rights abuses and support religious leaders for reconciliation.
The Secretary of State and National Security Adviser urged the warring parties to end the suffering of their people by silencing guns, choose peace and work together for the sake of all South Sudanese.
