Nile Petroleum Corporation or Nilepet Managing Director on Thursday said he met fuel companies in Juba and formed a committee tasked with fact-finding on fuel shortages in the country.
Paul Adong Bith explained that the committee would establish all companies’ storage capacities, demand levels, information on availability of fuel stock and advisory role based on the findings.
He said the committee would also gather concerns of all fuel companies and possible solutions to redress them.
The Managing Director disclosed that after receiving 40 million US Dollars Letter of Credit from Central Bank of South Sudan they already ordered 150 trucks of fuel heading to Juba to ease fuel crisis in the country in four days’ time.
Mr Adong warned that fuel shortages would continue hitting South Sudan as long as it imports from neighbours unless domestic oil refineries are put in place.
The Managing Director believes fuel shortage is due to too much demand of fuel all over the country and that the management would investigate cases of hoarding to shun perpetrating companies from business.
Fuel companies attributed the crisis to rise in Dollar exchange rates, clearing agents’ strike at Nimule border, heavy taxation and interference of middlemen dealers and favouritism of some companies by the national management.
