South Sudan Education Undersecretary on Thursday announced that government and non-governmental organisations’ education partners including UNICEF and Save the Children resolved to prioritise education amidst crisis.

Michael Lopuke Lotyam told journalists in a news conference after a meeting that current crisis cannot make education deferred, but agencies should continue education efforts amidst conflict to save the nation from losing future generation.

He added that government and partners also discussed ways of improving teachers’ conditions to spearhead education all over the country.

Mr Lopuke said international education partners are devising means to reach teachers and children in rebel controlled areas to continue education for all South Sudanese.

Save the Children International Chief Executive Officer Jasmine Whitbread disclosed a survey indicating that education is number one priority in South Sudan amidst crisis.

She explained that conflict-ravaged South Sudanese yearn for education as an emergency response from education actors.

UNICEF South Sudan Representative Jonathan Veitch told journalists that education remains a nationwide crisis without exception prior to mid December 2013 violence, turning previous efforts to zero.

He says it is time to act fast now to effect education for children by 2015 as a trauma healing strategy for instilling human rights respect, peace, tolerance and diversity awareness.
