Western Equatoria State Legislative Assembly Speaker attributed children drop from school to unfriendly environment.

Speaking on Wednesday during the handing over and thanksgiving ceremony of Gangura Primary School, Bage James Elisa disclosed that many children were running away from Gangura because the school environment was bad, Anisa Radio reported.

He disclosed that the enrolment this year was higher than last year because UNICEF constructed four standard classrooms in Gangura Primary School.

Speaker Bage appreciated UNICEF, promising that the community of Gangura would take care of the building and plant flowers to attract more children and keep them at school.

He said the Education Bill 2014 in its second reading in the State Assembly would become a law in the next session to guarantee education for both boys and girls.

UNICEF Country Director Jonathan Veicth promised to continue the long term relationship with the government of Western Equatoria to see that all children have access to quality education.

He urged the community to look after girls to keep them in school to avoid dropping out and early marriage.

Gangura School administration complained of few classrooms, lack of fence, store and administrative block, clean water point and teachers’ training.
