National Primary Health Care Director General said the ministry, United Nations World Food Program or WFP and UN Children Fund or UNICEF are expected to screen six hundred thousand acutely malnourished children in South Sudan.

Dr Samson Baba described the mass screening as a right step to assist children status in the country.

He disclosed that they have 254 social mobilizers trained to conduct the exercise to access the malnutrition in Juba to be followed by Warrap and Northern Bar El Ghazal States.

UNICEF Nutrition Chief Vimla Tyler advised people to detect malnutrition earlier to address the situation to avoid further cases in the country.

She said approximately one million children less than five years were severely malnourished, expressing that the screening should continue.

Dr Tyler advised that it is very important to invest in children because they are the future of the country.

The officials spoke on Tuesday during the launch of ‘Scaling up Management of Acute Malnutrition’ in South Sudan.
