The Council of Ministers on Friday endorsed establishment of General Medical Council in South Sudan to safeguard masses against ill health practices.

Cabinet Affairs Minister Martin Elia Lomurö told the media that the Medical Council would regulate, manage, monitor and evaluate medical services in the country.

He said government discovered some medical practitioners are not qualified, rendering services in clinics and hospitals by supplying expired drugs, prompting urgent need for the Council.

Dr Elia announced that the cabinet approved 18 members for the General Medical Council headed by Dr John Adwok Adieng deputized by Professor John Sejio Bona.

He said the Council establishment would mean end of sudden deaths for patients, accurate treatment for illnesses and disappearance of purported malaria typhoid, describing it a disease that does not appear in books of medicine.

The Minister made the revelation after regular Council of Ministers’ sitting on Friday in Juba.
