An analyst of Enough Project urges Intergovernmental Authority on Development or IGAD heads of state to uphold integrity in South Sudan peace process to empower the mediation team.

In a document CRN obtained, Justine Fleischner cited political leadership of the transitional government, term limits for current government officials and mandate of the proposed prime minister as key issues to resolve in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia South Sudan peace talks.

He added that the mediation team needs to take an active role in reconciling SPLM/A in Opposition and South Sudan government to overcome an impasse in the talks.

The analyst writes that IGAD mediation needs to ensure adequate space for civil society participation.

Mr Fleischner recommends United States government and other international donors to support civil society delegates by providing additional skills training on coalition-building, crisis communication and negotiation skills to take advantage of their presence at the talks.

The analyst urges the international community to exert pressure on South Sudan government to respect freedom of media and allow opposition voices to be heard inside the country.
