Tombura-Yambio Catholic Church leaders on Sunday disputed the Girls’ Education Bill presented by some members of the State Legislative Assembly during a fundraising event of Nzara Parish’s Charismatic Group.
Diocesan Pastoral Coordinator Fr Luke Yugue said South Sudan is still a young country to adopt all international standards implemented in the developed countries, Anisa Radio reported.
He said Western Equatoria leaders should first tackle the issue of high dowry which affect marriages of many youths.
Vicar General Monsignor Anthony Bangoye advised that the Bill should be studied slowly and carefully with the consultation of elders so that it would not be thrown away in the future once passed into law.
He justified that the Church is not against the international human rights, but stands firm to see that the holistic life of God’s people is not spoiled.
The fundraising that brought together Namaku parishioners, government officials, MPs, business communities and American teams amounted to 13, 471 South Sudanese Pounds.
The money was meant for purchasing a big generator for the Group in Nzara Parish.
