Oxfam America’s President told United Nations General Assembly High-Level Ministerial event on South Sudan that international community’s commitment in South Sudan crisis is encouraging, but words are simply not enough.

In a statement CRN obtained, Raymond C Offenheiser said he expected more UN member states to mention an arms embargo for the country.

He warned that as long as arms continue to flow to South Sudan warring parties would not stop fighting.

The Oxfam President was quoted as saying “the humanitarian crisis in South Sudan is a devastating man-made disaster and getting worse each and every day.’

He added that a comprehensive UN Security Council Arms Embargo led and supported by IGAD and the African Union should be applied.

The Oxfam President also suggested an establishment of monitoring body and panel of experts to monitor and report on the implementation of the embargo.

President Offenheiser said violence must end and the warring parties must agree on an enduring peace.
