Hiyala group won a wrestling competition on Sunday marking the celebration of the 15th year of Ibokwo Monyimiji in Tirangore Boma, Torit County.
Otuho Monyimiji Union Secretary Hakim Paride Taban said the best wrestlers came from group ‘A’, comprising Lolianga, Logurunyu and Hiyala, Emmanuel Radio reported.
He explained that Mr Chuma Edward from Hilaya defeated his Tirangore opponent in group ‘B’ by 2-0, becoming the best wrestler in the seven villages.
The Union Chairperson Albino Lima Haworu said the wrestling is building confidence among Tirangore and Murahatiha and that it cements the peace agreement signed between two villages on July 26 at Seger to end violence.
King Vitale Aburi of Hujang Kingdom, who witnessed the event, noted that wrestling is an annual cultural activity among several others that the Otuho perform.
He added that dancing, singing and athletics are other Otuho cultural events practiced to create harmony among people, recalling that they used to move from one village to another competing for the best title of ‘Lotir’ in Otuho territory.
He described the event as peaceful with cheers and cordial interaction of youth from different villages of Otuho community.
