African Union or AU Peace and Security Council expressed deep concerns over the lack of progress in South Sudan political negotiations including non-compliance with the sixty days deadline for the formation of the Transitional Government of National Unity and deteriorating humanitarian situation.

In a statement CRN obtained, the Council reminded South Sudanese stakeholders of their primary responsibility in ending untold suffering of citizens and achieving lasting peace, security, stability and reconciliation in the country.

The Council re-appeals to the warring parties to honour their commitments under the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement and implement the matrix setting out a timetable for disengagement, separation and disposition of fighting forces.

It reiterated its determination in coordination with IGAD to take necessary measures against any party that fails to honour its commitments and continues to undermine the search for a negotiated solution to the current crisis.

The Council requested AU Commission to urgently initiate consultations with IGAD to make concrete recommendations on the way forward.

It expressed its full support to the AU Commission of Inquiry to make recommendations to ensure accountability, reconciliation and healing among South Sudanese communities.
